Many people still don’t realise that scrapping your car can make you money. It’s a great solution if your car has been written off or the repairs outweigh the cost of the vehicle. You could then put the cash towards buying a new car or something else you want. To get the best price for scrap vehicles, you’ll need to use a reputable, licensed company with no hidden costs in their quote. But how much can you get for your car? Here are some of the factors involved which could affect the price offered.

Weight

The size and weight of your vehicle is going to be one of the biggest factors in how much you can get for it. Your vehicle is being scrapped, not salvaged and resold, so it’s essentially considered an item of scrap metal. Therefore, the higher the weight, the higher the cost, as there will be more scrap metal which can be used.

Valuable Parts

Many scrap vehicles are old and in poor condition, but other, newer cars, could be ready for scrap if they’re unfit to drive. In these cases, there may still be valuable parts in your vehicle, which can be stripped and resold before your car is scrapped. This could increase how much your scrap vehicle is worth. However, some companies will let you know they do not sell spare parts on, so you know your entire vehicle will be sent to an Authorised Treatment Facility. You may decide to investigate how much these parts could be worth before you scrap your car, but check this won’t affect the price offered.

Make & Model

Some people think the make and model of their car don’t make a difference when it’s scrapped – after all, it’s not going to be driven again. However, those vehicles which were worth more when they were bought could also fetch a higher price when scrapped. This is because the parts will be more valuable if belonging to a higher value vehicle.

Market Fluctuations

Some find that the price offered for their car one day may vary if they collect a quote on a different day. This is because the price given will be based on the daily price of scrap metal; a market which continually fluctuates. However, this is hard to predict and will take up too much time if you start to focus on this factor. It’s more important to find a company who can give you the best price on the day.

What people say about Rick

4.6 from 19 reviews on Google

“Great service, easy, friendly and efficient. I helped an elderly friend to scrap her old car from an awkward location with limited access. The car had a seized clutch so couldn't move under it's own power, or so I thought, but Rick had an impressive trick to get it moving, and it took barely 5 seconds to get it down the drive and straight up onto his flat-bed truck. A sight to behold!!”
Stephen D., Google review
“Professional, Courteous and Quick. Rang on a Monday for a Weds pickup (which suited me), I'm sure pick up could have been same day if I had wanted it. Rick arrived exactly when he said. Good price received and car put onto pick up, V5 all completed and car gone within 5 mins. Rick we a joy to deal with. I would thoroughly recommend Rick and SSC...”
Michael K., Google review
“So impressed with how quickly everything was sorted! We had a lot of scrap metal left over from building work and Ricky was here in a flash. No problem with anything at all, he just took everything. Saved us so much effort than having to go to the dump, and we got some money too!”
